Serge Amoruso, the man who makes the skin talk

His business is leather goods, but listening to Serge Amoruso, one understands that the man is a follower of eclecticism in the philosophical sense of the term.

A man of passions

If there is a master of art with many influences and passions, it is Serge Amoruso. The man is voluble, quick to express himself on what drives him. This leatherworker-designer is passionate. And his passions are diverse. He is passionate about Japan, aikido, gastronomy, Italy, his trade, leather goods... as much as he is about human adventure and beauty. Everything is mixed and intertwined with happiness for those who listen to him. Far from a list à la Prévert, Serge's passions capture your attention, and you follow him on the paths that are his. He practices cultural and philosophical eclecticism in his own way. And this openness towards different worlds nourishes his work as a leather designer. Happy are those who can count this man at their side.
With equal precision and a love of storytelling he takes you into his worlds. The curiosity he shows, the taste for sharing which are his, captivate the audience. It is obvious that the man has a talent for storytelling.

The Japanese aesthete

The most faithful followers of Serge's work are the Japanese. They know his language, his way of working with design and leather goods. His work has to be earned; you have to seduce the man to get access to his work. He says little about the "container" that is a bag, a briefcase, etc. Thus, it is necessary to be able to assume, to live the relationship with the Master of Art: "it starts from desire, transformed into pleasure; more than a need".
The Japanese form the bulk of his clientele. The French and the Japanese get along, understand each other, and know the time given to time. His followers accept the choices and proposals of the Master because the human relationship created is rich in exchanges that will lead them towards Beauty and singularity, together.
The Japanese have within them the culture of the object, the culture of Beauty, "of the object, the hand and the spirit". They appreciate with the fervour of collectors the refinement, quality and beauty of Serge Amoruso's work. The Japanese aesthete is not mistaken. And so we enter a world of ultra-luxury where each step is rare and precious.

Reserved access and enchanted bestiary

Serge Amoruso is a specialist in made-to-measure leather goods, working on each piece individually, by hand. And Serge mentions his favourite materials: shagreen, elephant, hippopotamus, small sturgeon, Russian leather... so many materials, so many skins that embark on an imaginary journey, an adventure. Each skin presented moves, intrigues and tells a story. Who would have believed the softness of the hippopotamus' skin, its crevices, its accidents that invite you to dream. Each skin has its own story, and each time Serge seizes it, apprehends it to better sublimate it in its singularity. A story of skins ... and Serge communicates with them; cherishes them, tames them to better work on them. The touch, the "grip", the sight, the density of the material are all elements that Serge, as an aesthete, knows how to handle when he chooses one skin rather than another to work on a new piece.

For seven years at the Viaduc, this travelling leatherworker has been refining, exploring, venturing out, looking for the next skins, the new, the excellence, the refinement to reach perfection. An inextinguishable process that has made him a sought-after leather artist in Asia.
