In early July, the City of Paris and the Paris Ile-de-France Chamber of Trades and Crafts (CMA) celebrated 100 years of artisanal excellence at the Hôtel de Ville, marking the centenary of the CMA. This beautiful event paid tribute to the craft businesses that have shaped the identity of the capital for a century. Three companies based at the Viaduc des arts were among those honoured.
A century of commitment to supporting artisans
Since 1925, the CMA network has supported today’s and tomorrow’s artisans in their training, development, and success. Constantly evolving, the CMAs have adapted to changes in the sector and across regions to meet future challenges head-on.
As public institutions led by elected artisans, the CMAs represent the full spectrum of craft trades. Their legitimacy lies in their in-depth knowledge of the field and the real needs of professionals.
Firmly rooted in local communities, at the departmental, regional, and national levels, the CMAs support a network of nearly 2.5 million craft businesses, thanks to the involvement of 2,500 elected members and nearly 11,000 employees.
3 artisans from the Viaduc des arts honoured
At the celebration held at Paris City Hall, 72 century-old Parisian craft businesses were recognised for their contribution to the richness and transmission of living heritage. Among them were three exceptional artisans based at the Viaduc des arts:
• Maison Tassin, a leather and art leatherwork workshop founded in 1905, renowned worldwide for its excellence and mastery of leather craftsmanship. Joined the Groupe Ateliers de France in June 2024.
• Maison Fey, specialising in fine leather upholstery since its founding in 1910. The company works exclusively to order and exports its expertise for many international projects.
• Baguès, established in Paris since the 1860s, handcrafts unique bronze or iron pieces using traditional techniques such as chiselling, ironwork, and gold leaf gilding.
Their journeys, stories, commitments, and craftsmanship were all warmly praised by Nicolas Bonnet Oulaldj, Deputy Mayor of Paris in charge of commerce and crafts, Afaf Gabelotaud, Deputy Mayor for business and economic development, and Francis Bussière, President of the Paris Chamber of Trades and Crafts (CMA IDF – Paris).
